Synopsis: Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Animation Studios take moviegoers up, up and away on one of the funniest adventures of all time with their latest comedy-fantasy. Up follows the uplifting tale of 78-year-old balloon salesman Carl Fredricksen, who finally fulfills his lifelong dream of a great adventure when he ties thousands of balloons to his house and flies away to the wilds of South America. But he discovers all too late that his biggest nightmare has stowed away on the trip an overly optimistic 8-year-old Wilderness Explorer named Russell. Their journey to a lost world, where they encounter some strange, exotic and surprising characters, is filled with hilarity, emotion and wildly imaginative adventure.
Review: The latest animated masterpiece from Pixar is UP. Pixar has put Disney back on the map in the animated world. It looked for a time like they were going to split ways, but thankfully all is well and merged now. We’re all waiting for sequels like Toy Story 3 (coming in 2010), but Pixar is also known for their great original concepts. UP is a film that advertised itself as a whimsical tale, and in many aspects it is, but it has far more dimensions than that.
I really don’t think its easy to make animation full of emotion. Its easy to pander to children, but to make a true animated movie is quite the challenge. After the emotional Wall-E, I was skeptical on how UP would stack..well UP. We meet Carl, an aged man who is mourning the love of his life and through this story he learns to let go and live life again. I won’t fill in too many details, because you need to experience this film for yourself, but its again a masterpiece from the talented storytellers at Disney/Pixar.
The blu-ray/dvd combo pack comes in a double sized blu-ray case. It includes two blu-ray discs (one of the film and one full of extras) the standard widescreen DVD and a digital copy. I’ve found that these four-disc combo sets are the ultimate way to experience the film. Firstly, you get the DVD, which is perfect for the kids to run off with and destroy, lol. Next I get a digital copy, which I can load on my iPod for me or the kids to watch when we’re out and about. And of course mom and dad get our blu-ray copy of this amazing film. This is the way that these films were meant to be seen..in high-definition.
Please do yourself and your family a favor and go buy this film today.
